The Symbolism of Ginkgo
The Ginkgo or Maidenhair tree is an ancient species that has existed over 300 million years. It has endured natural and man-made cataclysms and is a symbol of longevity and endurance. The Ginkgo’s bi-lobed leaf, which turns a beautiful golden colour in autumn, moved Goethe in 1815 to see it as an icon of duality: two-in-one and one-in-two, or a symbol of love and harmony, a Western Yin & Yang.
